We, the organisers of the VILUS Festival are firmly committed to sustainability and caring for our environment.

We strive to ensure that our festival is a place for people to come together, enjoy culture and have fun, whilst also being a responsible event that respects the environment; furthermore, we aim to contribute to the socio-economic recovery of the island of La Palma.

We are therefore committed to measures that reduce our environmental impact, encourage responsible consumption and promote awareness of and respect for our planet.

As part of this commitment, we also consider it essential to raise the profile of and support projects that work towards the understanding, protection and conservation of our environmentAt this year’s festival, we want to shine a spotlight on the Proyecto DELTAa comprehensive initiative focused on the monitoring and management of the marine ecosystem affected by the volcanic eruption.

Raising awareness of initiatives such as this enables us to convey to our community the importance of understanding, protecting and preserving our ecosystems, as well as highlighting the scientific and environmental work being carried out to understand how our region has evolved in the wake of the eruption.

At the VILUS Festival, we believe that culture, music and entertainment can also be tools for raising awareness, bringing people together and making a positive impact.

Because enjoying our surroundings also means committing to looking after them.

VILUS Festival: celebrating, raising awareness and caring.

¿Que es el proyecto DELTA?

DELTA is a comprehensive initiative focused on the observation and management of the marine ecosystem affected by the 2021 volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). The initiative, coordinated from the headquarters of the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN), aims to collect data, analyse environmental variables, establish observation systems and develop models for the conservation and sustainable management of the ecosystem. The multidisciplinary data collected will promote the sustainable management, underpinned by scientific knowledge, required to improve governance in the area.

The initiative highlights and demonstrates the link between environmental observation and its direct application in the creation of products and services within the blue economy, as well as the promotion of sustainable employment and effective mechanisms for the preservation of biodiversity. The project is funded by the Regional Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the State Secretariat for the Environment of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

OBJECTIVES

Ecosystem observation
To observe and study lava deltas and surrounding areas in order to understand marine changes and processes, as well as to carry out continuous monitoring that contributes to the sustainable management of the ecosystem.

Generate data
To generate scientific evidence for the sustainable management and responsible use of the environment and the knowledge generated, to promote knowledge transfer, and to contribute to informed decision-making and governance.

Socio-economic impact
To develop products and services to promote the blue economy and the socio-economic recovery of La Palma, by fostering sustainable tourism based on the conservation and observation of the marine environment, whilst creating blue jobs.

Awareness
To communicate, raise awareness of and highlight the value of the marine natural resources of the island of La Palma. Furthermore, the project will promote the dissemination of results and the creation of long-term partnerships to ensure the continuity of activities and the capitalisation on the project’s achievements.
